What’s That You Say? ANOTHER Project??

It’s true. The madness is only gaining momentum!

Abyss – Jen Stark [view more colour wonder!]

I first heard of the Temple of the Twelve – Novice of Colors book through an article by the author – Esmerelda Little Flame – on Witchvox (the article is longer archived there *BOOOO*). It’s been biding its time on my Amazon wishlist, never quite making the cut, but every so often I’ll run across something that reminds me to get back to it.

Most recently – last night, in fact – I read Nornoriel’s post on renewing her colourwork. She talks about studying the twelve colours (plus her addition of indigo) for a month each, starting at the New Moon. Which happened to be last night. If that isn’t a subtle sign that the time is now, then I don’t know.

13 moons = 1 year of studying the colours and their personal meaning and manifestation in my life. Colour is already a very important element in my life, one that is always evolving as it becomes necessary for me to learn new ways of incorporating it into the way I express myself. Studying it for a year will be a combination process of remembering past ties, discovering new meaning and deepening my understanding of colour symbolism – something that will also expand my ability to read tarot.

Inspired by Nornoriel, I’m going to let this process define itself, somewhat. I can start working with the concept (outlined here) and see where it goes. This way I won’t be adhering to the structure of the book which will be good for me on a psychological level, as well as allowing the journey to evolve organically (rather than becoming caught up in doing. it. like. this. and setting myself up for boredom and failure). And if I find I need direction down the line, I can always make the investment.

To this end, I did a mini-journey last night to see which colour would present itself first (*please don’t be brown please don’t be brown*). Wasn’t sure what to expect (what with recent difficulties), but I found myself in the Snowy Forest. I grounded first, finding the deep indigo depths of the night sky reflected below my feet. Interesting. I asked if he was there and sensed his presence behind me. He wasn’t distinct, but I could tell he was in winged form. He stretched my arms out to either side of me and I got a mental *push* to remember my own wings and golden form.

I fully expected someone I know to show up, like Black. Or that the snowy landscape was just right for White to make an appearance. Nope, wrong.

Hellow Yellow!

It makes some sense, with spring on the horizon ( e v e n t u a l l y ), the way I’ve been imagining warm, afternoon sunlight on my skin and that the Princess of Swords is Air, often assigned yellow as the suit colour. As the first blog redesign showed, yellow has been on my mind, even if only subconsciously!

I’ve already started pinning ALL THE YELLOW THINGS to get started. Once I’ve got the structural guideline put together, it will be linked under the Projects header. I admit to being excited about this. The Daily Draw Project is going well; Morty makes me happy; I have high hopes that a year of studying colour will yield equally successful results.

Yellow is the colour of identity, focus, clarity and awareness.

Let’s do this!

  1. Wow, this sounds awesome! I’m totally jealous and of course I want to do this too because COLORS!! (Yes, I spell it the American way. :P ) I’m going to watch your progress and see if it’s something I could do myself. Right now I don’t feel… experienced?… enough.

    And OMG more pinboards. <3

So basically, I approve, and I am SUPER EXCITED. :D

    • AHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! “Experienced” ??? Qurrrl, you just jump right in. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m not going to let that stop me :D I’m just going to start by jotting down everything I associate with yellow – memories, symbols, emotions – and see where it goes from there. Maybe I’ll make some shitty little sketches to go along with it. I think it will be something I mostly do _on paper_ *GASP* and then take photos of to add to the pages. It feels like it’s going to be a brainstormy, note to self, scribble-scribble kind of project.

Time to bust out the Crayola!

  2. I blogged about the Temple of the Twelve books to death thinking that no one would ever pay any attention to them…
….and now it seems like everyone is talking about them. I even saw today that there are plans to do a series of Pagan devotionals based on the Twelve: http://ravenshallpress.weebly.com/1/post/2011/10/staff-updates.html

Enjoy your time with Yellow. TBH, I don’t like the colour yellow, but I liked her in the book (I’m a Purple and Blue girl, though, Purple can lecture me all. day. long. and I will still be like MOAR! MOAR I say! Because *sighs*….)

    • Oh? Where did you blog about it (couldn’t find it on your current blog – or am I having an attack of dumb?) And now it seems to be suddenly part of the zeitgeist, though searching for info on it turned up nothing.

Yellow isn’t a go-to colour for me either, but I’m becoming more tolerant of it. Would you say in your experience that the book is a worthwhile investment?
