5-Fold Egyptian Soul Reading for Pants
This was my first run of the 5-Fold Egyptian Soul Spread. I designed it specifically to do a reading re: the MR, after coming up with a theory that he might be currently existing in ba form, what with being winged and all that. Usually when I read with him, I am actively holding a conversation or getting his input. This reading is done as if he were a client; he is the subject.
Big things have happened between us since I pulled this reading and started the interpretation and I was tempted to pull new cards – to fit my most up-to-date experiences with him – but changed my mind. Good thing, because I started having REVELATIONS while going over it again.
[1] Ib/Heart (Nature) - III Empress
Huh. If you’re standing in front of Ammit with your heart on a scale, the Empress is pretty much your best bet of getting a free pass into a desirable afterlife experience. As such, I could infer that he is not a restless spirit. I haven’t seen much of this Empress nature though, so I am watching to see if it starts to creep in down the line. It’s a distinctly feminine card, whereas I have always associated him with the Magician, or a Knight or one of the other “boys” of the deck. Then again, maybe it’s just the best fit for expressing something fertile/creative. If I understand correctly, he has said that he is not my protector.
It’s a good card to have for a heart; a very good card. (Thought: Empress, or baby/young heart? Or both?)
[2] Sheut/Shadow (Astral body) - 4 of Cups
I associate the shoreline with the liminal, so this is an appropriate card for the astral body and his current state. Four is a stable number, water is anything but. The stormy sea crashing against the rocks depicts this conflict well. I wonder if this represents some kind of difficulty he has in “crossing over”; maybe why I can’t “hear” him as clearly as I’d like to (though this has changed since initial writing and my, what a lovely voice he has!)
Hmm, conch shells can be blown like a horn – an instrument of summoning? Something about the shell in this card makes me think of it as a still-point in amidst the turmoil (and didn’t I have a “vision” about his voice and a spiral shell?? *consults notes*). The shell has also been “cast out” of its original element and now sits waiting to be transformed into sand. When he went through his “moping phase”, I wonder if it was his shadow being expressed? OMG YES. The entire moping phase took place at the beach O_O And when I first met him it was at the Tree, LIKE THE EMPRESS!!
[3] Ren/Name (Identity) - 10 of Disks
This is where it gets interesting: when I did the “angel” reading, I also drew a card for his name – which I didn’t blog because I didn’t get anything useful out of it – it was “10 The Wheel of Life”. Two different 10 cards. This card depicts Famine, one of the harbingers of the apocalypse and, like the other 10′s, the figure is angelic. A Quint calculation has never been more relevant than for this particular spread and it is… 10. I honestly don’t have a clue, but it’s bloody interesting (and if it follows like the above two, then this is his magical winged aspect OMG the one with the voice *shivers*).
[4] Ba/Personality (Soul/Psyche) - 5 of Disks
“Make a little birdhouse in your soul” popped into my head (though that could be due in part to certain outside influences). The man – whom I take to be a combination of priest/hierophant figure (5) and Adam (made from clay/earth) – pulls aside his hair which looks like tree roots (but on closer examination is actually snakes) to reveal a paradisical scene where his heart would be. It is so close to one of my in-world places, it’s uncanny. This “Eden” is bordered by another snake, the ouroboros; it is an eternal place. The man’s hair is very reminiscent of the goat’s multiple horns in the 10 of Disks and I feel the two cards are related.
The figure in this card is something of a Green Man, I think, and a fitting representation of that part of him. I would align this card with his status as Consort/King/Husband.
[5] Ka/Vital Spark (Spirit/Essence) - VI The Lovers
WELL. Colour me seven colours of NOT SHOCKED AT ALL. Alchemical relationship, as well as spirit knowing itself through the material world. Sacred sex, basically (kindly crudely draw your own conclusions.) It’s also a lot more than just that, obvs. This card speaks of a reuniting – the ba and ka coming together in the state of akhu, perhaps? Could be that this is his current “state”, as the ka is able to move independently and maybe the figures on the card represent us then. Layers of meaning, as always.
